Terms of use

Last updated: 26 October 2026

This is a courtesy translation. The German version is authoritative.

Before you sign in, the app and the account area on calligra.de say: “If you continue, you agree to the terms of use.” If you continue there, you agree to these terms of use.

1. Who we are and what these terms cover

These terms apply to the use of the app “Calligra” (iOS and Android) and the account area on calligra.de. The provider is Calligra – Engelhardt & Umkehr GbR, Bismarckstr. 69, 97688 Bad Kissingen (contact: management@calligra.de; legal notice). These terms do not apply to the purchase of the Calligra device; separate terms will apply to that once the device is available.

2. What Calligra offers

Calligra is a flashcard learning system. With the app you can create decks and cards, study with spaced repetition, view your progress, import and export decks as CSV, use your content on several devices through your account and transfer decks to a Calligra device via Bluetooth. In the account area on calligra.de you can sign in, view your decks and delete your account.

The app is free of charge. There are no in-app purchases.

3. Your account

  • An account is for one person. Do not share it with others.
  • You sign in with an email code, a password, Google or Apple. Provide a correct email address you have access to.
  • Keep your sign-in details secret and do not share them. If you suspect someone else is using your account, write to us.
  • If you are under 18, use Calligra only with the consent of your parents or guardians. Talk to them before you create an account.

4. Your content

  • Your decks and cards belong to you. We store and sync them only to provide the app to you, and we show them only to you.
  • You are responsible for your content. Do not write unlawful content or anything that infringes other people’s rights (for example copyright in textbook passages or exam questions) in your cards. Also do not put sensitive data (for example about health) or data about other people in them.
  • We do not check your content in advance. If we learn of unlawful content, we may remove it.

5. What is not allowed

It is not allowed to disrupt or overload the app or the website, to circumvent protection measures, to access other people’s accounts or data, to query the services automatically on a large scale or to use them for unlawful purposes.

6. The Calligra device

If you transfer decks to the device, they are also stored in the device’s memory. If you delete your account, this data remains on the device. Delete it directly on the device, especially before you pass it on or sell it. More in the privacy policy (Part B).

7. Availability

Calligra is a free service. We strive for reliable operation but cannot guarantee that the app and the account area are always available. We may change, add or discontinue functions. If we discontinue the app or the account area entirely, we will let you know in good time beforehand so that you can export your content. Back up your important cards regularly, for example with the CSV export.

8. Liability

We are liable without limitation in cases of intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health and under the Product Liability Act. In cases of simple negligence we are liable only for breach of an essential contractual obligation (an obligation you may rely on when studying with Calligra), and then only for the foreseeable, typical damage. Liability is otherwise excluded. Mandatory statutory provisions remain unaffected. [OPEN: have the liability clause reviewed by a lawyer (free app)]

9. Deleting and blocking your account

You can end the contract at any time by deleting your account, in the app or in the account area on calligra.de (see Delete your account and data). We may block or delete an account if it is misused or if you seriously breach these terms. We will let you know beforehand unless this is not possible for security reasons.

10. Privacy

How we handle your data is described in the privacy policy (Part B: app, device and account area).

11. Changes to these terms

We may change these terms, for example for new functions or a changed legal situation. We will announce changes to you beforehand in the app or by email. Changes that do not disadvantage you (for example new functions or clarifications) apply from the announced date. For material changes we will ask for your express consent, for example with a prompt the next time you open the app or sign in on calligra.de. If you do not agree, you can no longer use Calligra with your account. You can then delete your account at any time and export your content beforehand. [OPEN: have the clause reviewed by a lawyer]

12. Final provisions

  • German law applies. Mandatory consumer protection provisions of the country in which you live remain unaffected.
  • If any provision of these terms is invalid, the others remain valid.
